Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area is one of Cape Town’s sources of fresh, clean water, and is a World Heritage Site, rich in history, with ancient rock paintings by the San and Khoi people, and the oldest farm established in 1875. The area features extraordinary rock
formations and popular hiking routes.
Groot Winterhoek Wilderness Area has nine marked day trails through the mountain fynbos, and visitors can see rock formations, caves, San rock paintings, rock pools and overnight in the reserve. There is also a Die Hel to De Hoek kloofing route.
Accommodation is available in basic hiker huts with bunk beds and mattresses are provided. Sun-dome toilets are available at each hut
