Champagne is located on the banks of the Sterkspruit River in the Cathkin park, Drakensberg region in KZN. It is believed that the Champagne Peak name came up as a result of the first climber to reach its peak taking a bottle of Champagne to celebrate his achievement and accidentally dropping it. This area is well known for the different sporting activities, especially golf with a range of challenging golf courses. In this town is one of the highest peaks in Drakensberg, the Champagne Castle rising up to 3248 meters.
