Located within an hour's drive of Cape Town, the Swartland region is known for its rolling hills, vineyards and wheat fields as far as the eye can see. The area is stretched out from Malmesbury in the south, across the Riebeek Valley to Piketberg in the north. A popular tourist destination in the Swartland is Evita se Perron in Darling, where well known performer Pieter Dirk Uys combined his restaurant with a little cabaret theatre. Darling is also home to the yearly Rocking the Daisies Music festival.

“The Swartland lies beween Malmesbury (in the south), Piketberg (in the north), Darling (in the west), and the Riebeek valley (in the east). The landscape is not black, as the name implies. The dusky rhinoceros bush that gave this region its name has been replaced by tilled fields in winter khakis and summer greens. Malmesbury is the largest town in the Swartland.” - Chris Smit, 2024/04/27
