Holgat Pass is the 4th pass found when travelling through Baviaanskloof. Baviaanskloof has 6 breathtaking passes with Holgat pass being one of the most dangerous. The pass has a very narrow track with a big mountain climb for travellers heading eastwards.
Note that the concrete spoors on this pass have been breaking up and making things challenging and slow.

TRAVELLERS FEEDBACK:
It has been reported that the pass has recently been maintained. It has a 2 spoor concrete path making the drive easier but still challenging. 4WD needed. (Dec-17)
“Having just been through the Baviaanskloof, I can say that Henk's comment rings true about the concrete spoors breaking up and making things challenging, Holgat is currently very slow going as the concrete has a lot of broken and washed away sections now, leaving some deeper gaps with concrete overhangs where the soil has washed away underneath. We had no issues from the Willowmore side, just had to take it very slow.” - djtarr@live.co.za , 2025/07/07
“Holgat pass was recently maintained during our visit in April 2017. The pass is mainly tracked with a 2 spoor concrete path, it made towing our off road caravan interesting, but there were no bad sections (read: challenging 4x4)to speak off. I assume once these concrete spoors break up it would be a different story” - Henk van der Walt, 2017/10/04
