Esterhof is a township in Riebeek Kasteel, named after Mrs Ester Knobel, and is also part of a community project between Goedgedacht and BEN (Bicycle Empowerment Network), in which they have started an outlet for repairing and selling second hand bicycles. The community members of Esterhof are also part of an income-generation plan, in which they are encouraged to use their small garden plots to produce flowers for the hotel industry in Cape Town. This project also makes use of an innovative system that processes sewage into a very valuable, natural fertiliser.
