This reserve is nestled beneath the Chipata Mountain, it offers a vast network of rivers weaving their way through wooded hills, nourishing the dense miombo forests that make up Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve. The reserve is 19000ha and had over 1500 elephants in 1990 but it decreased as the wild was hunted out. Nkhotakota became an empty reserve with practically no wildlife left and giving travellers no reason to visit. But due to new management this all has changed.
