Rakops River Lodge, 7km west of Rakops Village, is the ideal stop-over for travellers en-route to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. There is electricity but not at each site. Private ablutions, which are neat and clean.
Campsite number 4 has shade.
Each campsite has a semi-enclosed shelter with a braai pit. The camp has a real Kalahari feeling to it.
Reservations are mandatory.

From RSA through all borders: Drive to Palapye and take A14 towards the west from the A1 junction. Drive for about 40km to Serowe and then Khama Rhino Sanctuary that is 30km west of Serowe, then Letlhakane is 190km from Serowe. From Letlhakane, drive 20km and turn into B300 road bypass Orapa Diamond Mine on your right and Mopipi Village is 65km from Orapa. Fro Mopipi, Rakops Village is 60km. Drive past Rakops Police Station on your right for 7km, then you reach Rakops River Lodge.

The rainy season is from October to March, if there is rain. Access to the lodge is by any vehicle type. Maun airport is 2 hours away. A shuttle service can be arranged. Car rental services are available at the airport. Prebooking is preferred for the rooms, but not for the campsite. The main road is tarred up to our turnoff. From the turnoff to the lodge it is 400m gravel. It is very dusty in summer. For Tourists visiting CKGR, it would be a good idea to stop over and stay at Rakops River Lodge Campsite if you reach Rakops by 14:00. It will take another 2 hours to drive 45km from the main road turnoff from the lodge, to the Matshwere Gate of the CKGR. From the gate, it takes another 2 hours to reach the campsites inside the CKGR. When leaving CKGR, you can also stay for night if you reach the main road by 16:00 as driving after dark in that area is committing suicide. You can also use the take a hot shower before proceeding to your next destination.
Avoid driving in the dark in this area.
