The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, found in the heart of the capital city, Lilongwe, was establishes in 2007 to help protect the wildlife and habitats of Malawi. There are just under 200 animals currently in residence, including birds, reptiles, carnivores, primates and antelope. Most of the animals in the park were rescued as orphans and victims of the illegal pet and bushmeat trade which is still prevalent in Malawi. The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre is a not-for-profit organisation and all donations from visitors goes back into caring for the animals. (Sep-15)
