“Another story told is that the Matroosberg was named after a shepherd Klaas Matroos who tended his flocks there in early years.” - Chris Smit, 2024/08/15

“Matroosberg was named after a rock formation below the summit which is said to resemble a sailor next to his ship when viewed from the south. (I do not have the imagination to see the resemblance) Matroosberg lies 35 km east of Ceres on the east side of the Ceres Valley. The closest town is De Doorns,10Km to the south.” - Chris Smit, 2024/05/15
