Livingstonia is a mission town with historic links to Scotland through Scottish Missionaries. Livingstonia is the third and final location for the mission; the first one being at Cape Maclear and the second at Bandawe. Both were moved because of high numbers of malaria fatalities at the mission, until it found the current ideal location on the plateau in the late 19th century. Livingstonia is a very scenic town as it is perched on the Rift Valley Escarpment. The town is spread out along the escarpment and houses a hospital, mission church, lodge, university and craft shop. The nearby Mushroom Farm and Lukwe Campsite are popular accommodation options and a short walk to the spectacular Mantchewe Falls and Kazichi Cave is worthwhile.
