Karee-Krans 4x4 Trail is much more than just a scenic trail. With the 3 trails (12 km long with 36 obstacles), there's plenty of off-road fun to be had here.
En route: Most people begin with the 5.3-km A route, which snakes up a rocky hillside behind the campsite to reach some interesting sandstone formations. The driving is pretty easy at first, but just when you're starting to relax you're confronted by a dauntingly steep and slippery descent. While it's not as bad as it looks, you should still take this section very slowly in low range 1st. The A Route ends off with an enjoyable obstacle course along the river, which has some fun but terrifying climbs and dips, as well as one or two tight corners which call for careful navigation and a good knowledge of your vehicle's dimensions. The B and C routes are shorter, but also packed with exciting obstacles. There are many look out and braai areas on route. At the end of the day you can take a swim in the farm dam, do a bit of fishing with the kids or mess around on the canoes at the stream.
