On the outskirts of the vibrant city our Historical Farmhouse (dated to 1875) hosts this wonderful Establishment called Haggards on Hilldrop which lies among a 3 hectare indigenous forest, awaiting your visit.

Rich with Industrial Diversity, Newcastle attracts mostly Corporate Clientele. Ideally situated between Gauteng, Durban, the Kruger National Park and the Drakensberg. As the Original Farmhouse of Sir Rider Haggard, Author of “King Solomon’s Mines”, our Establishment is nestled at the foothill of the Hilldrop Rocky Range.

As the Original Farmhouse of Sir Rider Haggard, Author of “King Solomon’s Mines”, built in 1875 and the focal point of our Bed & Breakfast, many a Corporate and Holiday Visitor has shared the history hereof since 29 July 1995. Our rooms are inviting with crisp poly-percale linen enhanced by the rich colours of Persian and Kelim carpets. Each Bedroom walks onto a patio or balcony with Garden or Forest views. Secure parking on premises for each room makes unpacking a breeze. Our 3 Hectare Indigenous Forest hosts an array of birdlife which surrounds the Honesty Bar and Swimming Pool. The Braai Lapa is available for private use and a favourite meeting place.

TRAVELLING FROM JHB VIA R34 MEMEL/VREDE
From the N3 at Villiers, take the R34. Drive approximately 67km. Turn left to Vrede. Drive 20km then take right to Newcastle. At robot -McDonalds on left - turn right. Drive approximately 4 km. Pass the Newcastle Mall and Black Rock Casino on Right. 200m after Robot at the Casino turn right - signage Haggards on Hilldrop. Drive 1,4km up the road. We are No. 15, 3rd B&B on the left.

TRAVELLING FROM VOLKSRUST VIA THE N11:
Keep on the N11 until you reach the 2nd Robot. Turn right into Allan Street off the N11. 200m Further turn left at sign saying Haggards on Hilldrop. Drive 1,4km up the road. We are No. 15, 3rd B&B on the left.

TRAVELLING FROM DURBAN VIA THE N11:
From the N3 take the Ladysmith Turnoff to the N11. Take the N11 all the way to Newcastle. At 1st Robot on the N11 keep left into Allen Street. 200m Further turn left at sign saying Haggards on Hilldrop.
Drive 1,4km up the road.
We are No. 15, 3rd B&B on the left.
