“Los-my-Cherry, a small settlement in Mpumalanga, is known for having one of South Africa’s most unusual place names. The name is commonly translated as “Leave my girlfriend (alone),” leading to speculation about its origin. Some believe it was named by a jealous boyfriend, but there is no recorded history to confirm this. The town, now officially called Tjakastad, covers about 7 kilometers and had a population of approximately 1,856 people according to the 2011 census. Despite its name change, Los-my-Cherry remains a curiosity, with its origins still a mystery. (Origins 22 - Genealogy & History )” - Chris Smit, 2025/02/17
