“'The Limpopo River is the second largest African river flowing into the Indian Ocean. It rises as the Marico and Crocodile, which join and flow eastwards, entering the Indian Ocean 80 km north of Maputo Bay. Known to the Portuguese as Rio do Cobre, Rio do Ouro, to the Venda as Vhembe, to the Zulu as ukupopoza, and to the tribes of Mocambique as Mogombene Mele. Said to be derived from Ndebele ilimphopho, ‘the river of the waterfall’. (SA place Names)” - Chris Smit, 2024/08/16
