“Laing’s Nek Pass is a low mountain pass in the Drakensberg, 8 km south of Volksrust and 34 km north of Newcastle. Named after the owner of a farm at its base, a certain Laing. It was the scene of military action between the Boers and the British in January 1881. it is sometimes called Lang’s Nek or Langnek” - Chris Smit, 2024/04/27
