The trail is strictly 4WD challenges and 4WD driving skills is required, road conditions vary from reasonably good to places with steep inclines and muddy patches where guests are asked to engage in 4WD and low range. The trail departs from Marakele National Park main entrance gate every Tuesday and Friday and ends at Moralane exit gate every Thursday and Sunday. (Two trails per week). Only 5 vehicles plus the guide’s vehicle are allowed on the trail at any one time, with a maximum of 4 people per vehicle. (No children under 12 years unless arranged prior to departure).

Drive from the main entrance gate to the Northern exclusive entrance gate to the 4x4 Eco trail on the northern boundary of the Park. Only 5 vehicles are allowed on a trail at one time to ensure that the environment is not unduly affected and to afford groups some exclusivity. A maximum of 20 persons (4 persons per vehicle), may participate per trail. No children under the age of 12 will be allowed. Trailists provide their own food, liquor and soft drinks.

Best Time to Visit :  During dry season from 1st Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October.
Gate Opening and Closing Times :  May to August 07h00 - 17h30; September to April: 07h00 -18h00.
Reception Opening and Closing Times :  1st Sept to 30th April: 07:00-18:00; 1st May to 31st August: 07:00-17:30
Subject to Seasonal Operation. :  During dry season from 1st Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, after which the rainy season normally commences. Please note that the route may be closed completely after heavy rains. (Jun-2021).

Fee/s :  Conservation Fees : SA Citizens R59pp/pd, SADC Nationals R118pp/pd, Foreign visitors ZAR236pp/pd. All children pay half price. Trail Pice: ZAR4 500.00 to increase to R4 750.00 on the 1 November 2021(Updated Jun-2021)

Comments :  The current tariff is calculated per vehicle and excludes conservation fees (which is payable on arrival). A maximum of 20 persons (4 persons per vehicle), may participate per trail. No children under the age of 12 will be allowed. All participants have to complete an indemnity form before embarking on the trail. These forms should be handed to the trail ranger before departing on the trail. There in no shop on the trail and accommodation is own ground tent or roof tent Accommodation: The trail has two unfenced camps, each with its own unique and natural feel. Two Enviro-loos (mobile toilets with no chemical component) are provided at each camp. Each site has its own unique bush character as they have been left as undisturbed as possible. (Jul-2021)
