“The Fort is was built in 1899 on top of the Tunnel in Cogmanskloof about 5km from Montagu on the R62 to Ashton. It was named after Lt. Col. Sidney, Commandant of the Royal Field Artillery, who selected the strategic site. During the Anglo-Boer war it was manned by a company of the Gordon Highlanders under a Lt. Forbes and was declared a national monument in 1999” - Chris Smit, 2024/06/07
